Beautiful Belfast!
Sunday, 19 October 2008
I've just finished the first gig in the Spring & Airbrake and what a gig it was... I'm always scared to talk about things that I love lest they lose their charm, but it must be said that playing in Belfast is an utter joy. Every time I play here I feel like I've been given such a long leash with the gigs. Tonight I played a whole lot of new stuff and was actually a tad concerned that it would be to the detriment of the gig, but vital for me to do...thing is, the Belfast crowd always afford me the space to do what I feel I should... we had a great night together!!!I'm sure there are a load of spelling mistakes here but I've had a few bottles of fine ale and a great night, so I don't mind....
I had a taxi driver today called John (BIIIIG John) how collected me from the airport and talked the whole way down the road about his former life as a door man, and all sorts of things. The highlight was definately when he spoke about education, stating that it was a farce.... in his words "I'm as smart if not smarter than anybody I know, and I didn't even go to school for the last three years. I actually learnt how till read and write by watching Emmerdale and Rainbow!!!" I nearly pissed myself!
For those of you not offay with Ulster lingo,"how till read..." means - in this instence - "who TO read and...." and Emmerdale is the shitist of all shitingest soaps/cereals/ongoing life suckers that you're ever likely to come by..... and Rainbow was a kids programme with a bear, a thing with a zip for a mouth and a gay hippo.... puts that statement in a different light I reckon.... don't get me wrong here, I'm all for bears and zip mouthed things and gay hippos; especially George!!
right, I'm talking balls, so I'm off... ni night x
p.s. i took some video footage of the people at the gig that I'll post when I get home ( I forgot the appropriate lead...)

Sheshe replied about 13 hours after.I especially liked when my brother shouted 'Ur a hero!!' Gabriel and the Vagabond amazing! It's great to see someone who actually connects wit the audience and delivers pure entertainment! Great night all round! ;)
Trev replied about 15 hours after.Foy, Sunday must be the sixth time I've seen you in Belfast in the last two years and you were excellent as usual with some great songs sounding even better with fresh arrangements, but the quieter ones had the edge taken off them by all the annoying chatter at the back despite frequent shushing, which I know you appreciated. Perhaps you could employ bouncers at future gigs to politely ask those suffering from verbal diarrhoea to leave or shut the f*** up as good people like me didn't pay hard earned money to hear them witter on. I hear that Van has demanded that the venue bars are closed while he is on stage as he doesn't like being distracted by people going back & forward for more drink. I personally think that your talent should be afforded the same reverence, otherwise fantastic show & come back again soon:-)
Rob replied about 17 hours after.Foy man you were absolutely amazing last night. Incredible gig and as always an absolute pleasure to be part of it. You are an absolute genius and i cant wait to hear more of your new material. Hope tonight goes equally as well for you.

Sean replied about 22 hours after.Foy, superb show last night - new stuff is awesome!! Not a bad song the whole night!! Sorry about the few twats at the back that kept talking!! Keep writing those songs that you don't write! Cheers!
sandra replied 1 day after.Superb as always Mr Vance and a learning experience for me. I shall always be early and at the front in future to avoid being in association distance of the "twats at the back".When they were reminded that we had paid to hear YOU one of them said that he would pay to hear himself talking...which wasn't a surprise really. What a knob!
Anyway ..glad it didn't spoil your night. New material is well up to standard.Come back soon!
Rob replied 1 day after.Foy man here is a video i took of the song you sang about where you were with your dad, if i remember right.

tony replied 12 days after.Foy,
I know its a couple of weeks now, but the S%A gig was amazing. I really thought your new songs were a step forward for you. I would love to hear them on a CD but from what I could make out, you are improving and maturing. I cant wait to hear the final product. That was Patricia (remember me...) by the way that whooped up at the encore saying that she wanted you to play "indiscriminate"... which you did in spades.. twice. Apart from feeling like Methusalah and the noise from the bar, I loved every minute. Thanks Foy and keep it up. From me, Mark and Patricia. Tony
