autumn, records & coffee

I went for a walk this morning to clear my head,I could feel the sun on my back and still see my breath. The leaves that weren't on the ground were all turning red, orange, gold....my head's more clear than it was before I left, that's for sure, however it's still not very clear.  I'm going into the Studio with JV today to work on some stuff that we've written together. I've been telling her for ages that she needs to get it out there, so we're going to record it and put it up on her site... it's really interesting stuff actually, I'll keep you posted (or just keep an eye on her site)...

aside from that, I'm, going back to my roots today... not musically... I used to work for a coffee company that imported Fair Trade coffee into Ireland doing whatever needed done really, but part of the job was training other baristas (Barista: someone trained in the art of making coffee)... a friend of mine has a great little coffee shop that he shares with a vintage clothes company, a girl that sells vintage and obscure furniture/brik-a-brak and...wait for it...a record store specialising in vinyl!!  He's been working morning noon and night to make it all come together so I'm gonna hop in from time to time, today being one of those times...  I can't help but think it'll be informative.  Most of the day is quite so you just put records on, read books and drink coffee: ideal!  Having said that, I don't think I could do it for a job for too long, I like my own space too much, but as something to do once in a while, it's kind of got my juices flowing...

Have you ever heard 'Last thoughts on Woody Guthrie" by Bob Dylan: The Collection?  It's basically something Bob wrote to say what Woody meant to him... a lot, you could say... really worth a listen whether you're a fan of Woody or not, or Dylan for that matter.  Music was hugely important to people of that era, still is to people today but the water's just a bit more muddy now, sometimes hard to find the good stuff before losing the desire dig through the dross...

right, songs need recorded, coffee needs made, and records need a dusting off for an eager ear...

I don't know you Foy - I met you for about two minutes tops - but this small detail won't stop me from making a suggestion reading between the lines of our blog. Maybe you should book a cottage with a piano, take a guitar and some basic recording equipment and write/record the follow up to 'Hope'...a daunting prospect I know. Yours sincerely, Mark Ede Winner of the most brazenly opinionated person of the year, 2006 (runner up 2003).

would also recommend 'christmastime in washington' by steve earle for a nice tribute to woody gurtherie.
